Frequently Asked Questions

HOW MANY SHOWS DO YOU PERFORM EACH YEAR?
Two a year. Usually in May/June and November/December.

WHERE DO REHEARSALS AND SHOWS TAKE PLACE?
At Kibworth Grammar School Hall, School Road, Kibworth, LE8 0EW.

HOW OFTEN DO YOU MEET FOR REHEARSALS?
Weekly on Tuesday evenings from 7.30pm until about 9.45pm. Closer to the show dates we rehearse both Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

HOW MUCH TIME AM I EXPECTED TO COMMIT?
As much time as you feel able. We all lead busy lives so we accept that everyone won't be able to make every rehearsal. The director will keep you up-to-date with rehearsal plans so you'll know exactly when you're needed and when you can have a night off! As the show draws nearer, we usually devote a couple of Sundays as well. You should always keep your diary completely clear for the show week!

DO YOU EVER HAVE A PROMPT DURING A SHOW RUN?
No! Learn your lines! Seriously though, we realise that occasionally actors do slip up so whilst we encourage you to feed from one another, we do also have a prompt just in case.

HOW DO I AUDITION?
We always hold read throughs and auditions which are generally held on Tuesday evenings over a three week period. If you are unable to make it along to any of the dates but would still like to be considered for a part, then contact the director of the show and express your interest that way.

Read-throughs provide the opportunity to come along see what the show is about before you commit. You will be asked to choose the roles you would like to audition for and you will be informed prior to the audition what passages of script and/or songs you will need to perform for these parts.

WHAT IF I DON'T GET THE ROLE I WANTED, OR ANY PART AT ALL?
This can happen, of course, but all we ask is that you keep with the spirit of the company and pitch in with any role or backstage task you feel you are able to commit to. We work as a team when putting a show together and always need help with backstage, make-up, costumes, set design, set build, lighting, sound, prompt, music and Front of House. The list is endless!

WHAT IS FRONT OF HOUSE?
Front of House volunteers are those who deal directly with the audience, from the moment they walk in. They ensure the smooth running of ticket collection, selling programmes, running the bar, as well as directing people to seats where necessary.

HOW MUCH WILL KTC COST ME?

There is no charge for joining KTC, however we do like actors and directors in a play to donate a £20.00 show fee; this covers the cost of scripts and goes towards the hire of the rehearsal venue.  For those who are students or unwaged of who only have tiny parts in a play we are happy to sugget a reduced donation.

AS A KTC MEMBER, WHAT DO YOU EXPECT OF ME?
Nothing unreasonable! If you are in a show, you should come along to as many rehearsals as you are required to, as per the rehearsal schedule. You will also be expected to learn your lines and be available for the whole show run, which is usually over one weekend. If you don't get a role in a show, then we'd still love you to get stuck in to one of the other roles. Most importantly though, we would expect you to enjoy yourself, and to have fun being involved!

HOW CAN I GET MORE INVOLVED WITH THE RUNNING OF THE GROUP?
As a member of the group, you will be invited to attend the Annual General Meeting which happens around February/March. You can put yourself forward to be a Trustee for the group at this meeting and we are always keen to attract people onto the Board with new and fresh ideas to continue to move the group forwards. There are nine Trustee posts in total, three of which are 'without portfolio' and are a good introduction to being on the Board. We usually meet every three months at someone's house and share wine and nibbles so it's all quite informal!

ANYTHING ELSE?

From time to time we organise social events; this could be a trip to a show or maybe an evening when the cast of a recent show get together for a reunion.  Many of us end our evenings rehearsal in the local pub!
